How Many Times Did The Big Bang Theory Shoot Each Scene?
The Big Bang Theory was a treat to watch for fans on television. However, filming the show was a treat in itself, especially for the cast. Laura Spencer admitted that shooting in front of a live audience was always such a great experience.
She said, "Probably my favorite part of the show is doing scenes before a live audience and getting to see how intensely devoted the fans are to the show. They are so loving and supportive through the whole taping. That’s just been a real joy to see and experience."
The cast agreed with this statement, however, at times, shooting would be a little longer. As we'll reveal, last minute modifications were at times made, causing scenes to last a little longer. We'll reveal how long it took to shoot an episode of the sitcom, and how many takes it took to wrap up a scene.
Certain Big Bang Theory Scenes Took Several Takes To Perfect
On average, The Big Bang Theory took three to five hours per shoot. When things ran smoothly, production was wrapped up in three hours. However, at times, that wasn't always the case...
Kaley Cuoco admitted certain scenes weren't exactly easy to shoot. Cuoco recalled the 'Strawberry Pop Tart' scenes taking ages to shoot alongside Johnny Galecki. According to Cuoco, last minute changes were made to the script and she just couldn't get it together.
She tells TV Line, "Funny enough, The Gorilla Dissolutionthey wrote that Pop Tart line at the very last minute and I couldn’t remember it! I kept flubbing it, making everyone laugh, to the point that I was like, “OK, this is taking the charm out of the scene!”
Nonetheless, Kaley revealed it all went well in the end, "But it ended up being so cute, and the audience was going crazy, standing and cheering…. We had to keep telling them to calm down, but they had waited so long for it."
Quite the moment on the show, and one fans had a blast with.
On Average, A Big Bang Theory Scene Was Shot At Least Twice
Thanks to author J.W. Lynne, fans were able to get some information on what it was like to be a part of The Big Bang Theory audience. Lynne detailed her experience at the Warner Bros. Studio in Burbank, California, detailing some neat behind the scenes details.
Among some interesting tweaks to take place, included the stagehands putting grape juice in the wine bottle for Penny's scene, and constantly filling it back up between takes.
Lynne revealed that the process on the day was a smooth one, lasting three hours. In addition, each scene was shot at least twice.
She wrote, "I never lost interest in the filming, even though every scene was performed at least twice. The writing, the acting, and the funny changes to the dialogue kept my attention. Also, there was an energy inside the soundstage. I'd never watched The Big Bang Theory with so many Big Bang Theory fans. That was really special!"
During the reshoots, writers would alter certain lines in-between. As for improv and creativity from the actors themselves, Simon Helberg admitted this was quite rare and hardly took place during shoots.
Scenes With Simon Helberg At Times Took Longer To Shoot, Given That The Cast Couldn't Hold It Together
Ask the cast of The Big Bang Theory which actor was the hardest to shoot with and generally, the answer is, Simon Helberg. The actor is typically praised for his comedic chops, especially when he was portraying Howard.
Laura Spencer recalls her time alongside Simon, "They are all really funny and funny in different ways. I would have to say that Simon’s humor gets me every single time. We’ve all had our moments when we break and those will undoubtedly be in the blooper reel."
Kaley Cuoco was another cast member to agree with Helberg being the best of the bunch.
"Simon Helberg (who plays Howard) makes me laugh, really, really hard. Everyone at work is so funny and I learn from them every single day, but Simon is, I think, one of the funniest people I have ever met... I surround myself with some funny people."
Great to see that the show was not only a blast for the fans to watch, but the same held true while shooting the sitcom.
